David Van Leer, Professor of English and Queer Studies. I have long been a supporter of film at Davis and was chair of the committee whose report established the program. I have taught lectures and seminars on LGBT film at the undergraduate and graduate level. I am currently preparing a course on documentary film. As a journalist I have written on film, theater and music for the New Republic and elsewhere. My publications in film focus mostly on commercial, even tacky, Hollywood products. I have written on Damn Yankees, Gentlemen Prefer Blondes, These Three, and Black LGBT film and video. I am currently working on a book that will explore not only Vertigo and Psycho, but lesser works like Sylvia Scarlett, Bell, Book, and Candle, and Outbreak.
