Sergio de la Mora is Associate Professor in Chicana and Chicano Studies at the University of California, Davis. His book, Cinemachismo: Masculinities and Sexuality in Mexican Film (University of Texas Press, 2006) was a finalist for the LAMBDA Literary Award in the category of Art and Culture. His research and teaching interests include Latin American and Chicano/Latino film, video and literature, third cinema, popular culture, queer studies and cultural studies. His courses include Mexican Cinema, Latin/o American Cinema, Representation in Chicana/o Cinema. His current book project is tentatively titled, La Tequilera: Lucha Reyes, Ranchera Music and Modernity in Mexico. He is also researching a star study of actress Isela Vega and her participation in sexploitation and art films; the representations of rape in prisons in relation to Chicano and African American masculinities; Chicanos and Mexicanos in Vietnam war films; the history of the emergence of "gay" male pornography in Mexico. He is an active promoter of Latin American and Latino film/video and regularly curates programs and/or writes articles for film festivals, galleries and museums.
