Chia-ning Chang is a Professor Japanese Literature and currently the Director of East Asian Studies at UC Davis. His most recent research areas include the intellectual and cultural history of Japan in the 1920s and 1930s through the writings of Kamei Katsuichirō, a prominent literary and cultural critic (forthcoming, Duke University Press), and an examination of the Japanese manipulation of Chinese film production in Japan-occupied Manchuria in the 1930s and early 1940s.
