Program Highlights and Events
May 28, 2008: "Preparing for the Profession: Mapping the Field of Feminist Media Studies Workshop"
Andrea Fontenot, doctoral candidate, UCSB, English Department, with an emphasis in Women's Studies. She has served as the managing editor of Camera Obscura: Feminism, Culture, and Media Studies since 2004.
DAY: Wednesday, May 28th
PLACE: Multipurpose Room, TechnoCultural Studies Building (Former Art Annex)
TIME: 4 p.m.
This workshop will address the history, institutions, and future directions of feminist media studies. Tracing its development from the early 1970s through its current presence across a range of academic departments and disciplines, including English, Film Studies, Women's and Gender Studies, LGBTQ Studies, American Studies, Drama, language studies, and ethnic studies, the workshop will discuss how a diverse group of scholars constitute feminist media studies as an interdisciplinary field in its own right.
The aim of the workshop is to provide emerging scholars with both a historical background and a current state-of-the-field context in which to understand their own contributions and career trajectory. We will pay particular attention to strategies for publishing and searching for feminist media studies jobs. Participants are encouraged to bring and share strategies, experiences, and information about currently available opportunities (e.g., conferences and CFPs). The recommended reading for the workshop is posted on the UCD Film Studies Program website.Spring 2008 Calendar of Events
